A PC version was in development along side the Xbox 360 version for a number of years, though was later cancelled for undisclosed reasons. It was released on May 14th, 2010 in Europe and in North America on the 18th of the same month. It is played from the third-person perspective and is self-styled as a "psychological action thriller", putting its focus on narrative and atmosphere.
Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a download-only follow up to the original Alan Wake. The game takes place in Arizona as Alan is trapped in episodes of the Night Springs television series that he had written early in his career. Caught between reality and fiction, he does battle with Mr. Scratch, a twisted doppelganger that appears at the end of the original Alan Wake.
